What are you doing here?
You came here for a specific purpose. What is it?? It’s your greatest challenge. Yup! You’ve come here to overcome that which challenges you the most. That thing in your life that causes you sleepless nights, constant strife, pain and turmoil is the reason you are here. You came into this magnificent life to overcome it.
Do this week’s Ageless Movement Belly Opening Practice to accept the challenge. Take it on like a boxer going into the ring. As you get knocked down, get back up again and again.
I watched this AMAZING movie called, Life Itself. It’s on Amazon and all I can say is, watch it! Anyway, at the end of the movie the mother is speaking to her son and says something like, “Life brings you to your knees. But if you stand back up and go a little farther you will always find love. Keep moving and you will find love.” I friggin’ LOVE that!!
What’s your greatest challenge?
That thing that brings you to your knees again and again. What brings you to your knees? It can seem at times to be a lot of things but there is one primary theme. What is that theme in your life? There are common themes like abandonment, physical, emotional or sexual abuse, money problems, career issues, love challenges or power struggles. I could name many, many more.
You uniquely play out these themes. For example, all abandonment issues don’t play out in the same way. You may be afraid others will abandon you so you caretake everyone around you or you may end relationships because you are afraid the other is going to leave you — I could go on but I think you get the point.
What challenges you and how do you play it out? What choices do you make when the challenge surfaces in your life?
If you are struggling with coming up with your greatest challenge — ask someone you are close to. It’s easy to see other’s challenges but sometimes we remain blind to our own.
What is your purpose?
Once you know your challenge, your purpose is the opposite of that challenge.
Here’s an example, I’m going to borrow my friend Lynn’s greatest challenge, Lynn has a temper. When something or someone makes her feel uncomfortable, Lynn’s first response is anger. Lynn’s particular way of dealing with her anger is to shut down, push people away, make plans to run away and sometimes even to run.
Now, as you can imagine, this causes problems in Lynn’s closest relationships. The feeling of relating to others can be discomfort as there is often conflict when two or more people come together. If Lynn feels uncomfortable in her primary relationship she gets angry, shuts down, pushes her partner away, makes a plan to run and sometimes runs away.
Lynn’s greatest challenge is: Fear of conflict which causes her anger and destroys intimate relationships. Her purpose is: To find comfort in conflict which will relax her and create connection in her intimate relationships. How did I get there? Lynn’s purpose is the opposite of her challenge.
Let’s work this out — The opposite of fear of conflict is comfort with conflict. The opposite of anger is relaxation and the opposite of destroying is creating. Therefore, Lynn’s work is to practice finding comfort in conflict which will relax her and create connection in her intimate relationships. Got it?
PRACTICE
The first step in healing anything is awareness. Lynn has done work and is aware of her challenge. She knows what brings her to her knees.
The second step in healing is acceptance. She gets back up and embraces her challenge. She seeks help from guides and takes the challenge into her daily movement practice. Lynn explained her challenge to her partner and receives understanding.
And Lynn goes farther. Lynn practices moving away from her fear of conflict and toward comfort. It’s a practice. She’s not perfect. When Lynn falls down she gets back up and goes farther. I know she will find love!
It’s beautiful to watch Lynn and everyone who’s aware of their challenge, accept it and walk toward their purpose. You can do this beautiful walk! You can go farther. It’s why you are here!! You are ultimately here for love!
My gift to you!
