A Quote from — Jennie Lee, Breathing Love, Meditation in Action
Time seems to stand still when I meet people I KNOW in my heart that I am connected to in a deep way. It is as if the air shifts and a part of me that is most often closed off — opens up. In that opening, I can see past what I know in my ordinary life and I slip into the most extraordinary place.
That happened when I met Jennie Lee. It was a divine appointment. Jennie attended the course I taught at a conference and after the class, she approached me and introduced herself. I felt the shift of time and space immediately. She said, “We are truly connected. I’d like to gift you my book. Let’s meet.”
The gift
A couple of hours later we sat at Starbucks attempting to share. The noise level and others stopping by to say, “Hello,” were a distraction. So Jennie reached into her bag and brought out her latest book. Breathing Love, Meditation in Action and handed it to me. I brought the book to my heart, rested it there for a moment, knowing this book was going to be very important to me.
As I said, “Thanks,” Jennie got up to leave. I placed the book in my bag — went on with the conference, traveled to another city taught another workshop, and saw clients. Traveling back home I reached into my bag and bumped into Jennie’s book. Ahhhhh, it was time to dive in and explore the feeling I felt when I met Jennie as she gifted me her book.
I began to read. A few pages in I knew why I felt that deep connection. We spoke the same language. It was as if we both knew the same things without having known each other on this earth plane.
The gift of love
When I got home I called Jennie and told her, “Wow, no wonder you gifted me your book. We say the exact same things. It seems we know love in the same way. We must have gone to the same love school.”
I’ll never forget Jennie’s reply, “Isn’t there only one?”
Yes, I have to agree with Jennie there is only one love school. Which it seems the entrance exam is a broken heart. Yes, having your heart broken teaches you, love.
Grief is the shadow of love
As you open up to your losses, work your way through the pain and come out the other end — you will understand that your love is greater than your pain.
I highly recommend Jennie’s book, Breathing Love, Meditation in Action. It has motivated me to commit at a deeper level to love school and to choose to make my love greater than my pain.
Here’s a meditation from Breathing Love:
Releasing Sorrow
When heavy emotions weigh on your heart, pressing it to close in self-protection, repeat one or all of these affirmations:
- May my love be greater than my pain
- May my love be greater than my fear
- May my love be greater than my despair
- May my love be greater than my anger
- May my love be greater than my suffering
- May my love grow stronger with every breath
As you chant these affirmations take a supported side opener and watch your pain, fear, despair, anger, and suffering leave your body.
PIC
Take a chair and sit on your right hip in front of the chair. Bring your right arm onto the chair seat hooking your right hand through the rung with your hand resting on the back of the chair seat. Your armpit is off the chair seat! Or if your chair has a closed-back weight it down with a pillow or place your hand under the cushion. Rest your head on your arm or place a pillow between your head and shoulder.
Walk your right hip back away from the seat chair until you feel a pull through the right side seam of your body. Straighten your legs and place them slightly in front of your body so your lower back remains long.
Take a deep breath in, in and in (three-step inhalation) taking in as much breath as you can. Hold for the affirmation of May my love be greater than my pain and release your exhale. Keep going through each affirmation. When complete come to sit on your left hip and repeat on your left side.
When finished come out and sit in a simple cross-legged position with your tail long, ribs in and down, inner arms rolled out and scapula squeezed together. Feel the opening you’ve created in your side seams with each deep breath in.
