A Note From Your Side Seams
Hello Secret Self,
I’m your side seams, the space in your body that you like to hide things that you aren’t ready to work on, admit about yourself, own, deal with or you try to keep secret. As a result, my nickname is the junk drawer of the body.
I give you neck, shoulder or mid-back pain, tension, and tightness when I’m too full. I’m signaling you to open your junk drawers, see what’s in there, keep the things that work, and get rid of the parts that don’t.
Right Side Seam
I grow tight, tense and painful on your right side when you don’t want to deal with others. Perhaps, the way you love others isn’t working or your ego is attached to the outer world and the attachment isn’t serving you. Hence, open me up on the right side, take a look inside and see what’s there. Pull things out and ask — Do I need this piece of myself? If so, honor that part of you and integrate it into the whole of you. I need all the help I can get. And if that piece of you prevents you from being who you truly are in the outer world, throw it away. Ahhhhh, I feel cleaner already.
Left Side Seam
I give you tension and pain on your left side when you avoid your feelings and inner knowings. Therefore, it’s time to open up this left junk drawer and do some deep cleaning. Here’s where you’ll find old feelings that need to be owned and processed through and intuitive knowings that need to be acknowledged. I really need you to do this work to get current and create a more functional guidance system.
First of all, you need to clean out the old stuck junk that’s piled up, As a result, your arms will swing freely, you’ll be able to move your head and neck completely with no pain or tension, and you will breathe deeply.
Clean up!

A Side Seam Story
Lacy came to see me because her right shoulder and neck were in a lot of pain. As Lacy walked into her private session, I could see her right arm was tightly clamped to her side. She was hiding something in her right side seam. Perhaps, a secret.
I took Lacy into right side seam openers and her story began to unfold. She’d grown up in a country and a religion that didn’t allow her to be herself. As a result, Lacy learned to hide her power, intelligence, and most of all her attraction to women. In direct opposition to Lacy’s truth, her mom raised her to be subservient to a man. She tried dressing up in feminine outfits and even dated a guy, but it didn’t work. Therefore, Lacy knew she had to leave her home and country to become her true self.
So, Lacy did leave and found herself in a part of the world that accepted her fully. She was in a long term relationship with a woman, owned her own business, and was happy. But Lacy’s past, she’d run from, was coming up to haunt her.
Lacy’s childhood girlfriend was stuck in their home country and dying of cancer. Her friend was also a lesbian and was in a secretive long-term relationship with her beloved girlfriend. Currently, Lacy’s friend lay dying in the hospital unable to see the love of her life because the family wouldn’t allow it. Lacy was triggered by this horrible situation.
Be Who You Are
It’s tragic to feel who you really are is shameful and wrong. Lacy was strong enough to break away from her home country and religion but not everyone is so fortunate. As her friend lay dying, Lacy became so angry at the injustice of her friends situation, it triggered her to remember how she kept her true self a secret to everyone as she was growing up. It was time for Lacy to look at the remaining parts of her that were still stuck in that time.
Overtime, Lacy opened her side seams and looked at her own pain. She saw me for sessions and talked about feeling overwhelmed, sad and angry to be considered wrong and bad by everyone around her as she was growing up. Lacy’s young life had been hard. Now, she began the work to let go of what others thought of her at an even deeper level. As a result, Lacy’s right neck and shoulder pain began to subsided. She allowed herself to feel sadness for her friend. Finally, Lacy’s past allowed her to find a deeper level of freedom inside herself.
