Keep it together
Right now, during this pandemic, it is more important than ever to keep yourself together. To do the practices that help you remember you are a whole being — that keep your whole system healthy, happy, and free.
It can seem impossible to choose to BE healthy and happy right now. There is so much loss, so much uncertainty, and so much misinformation. But only you can choose to be whole and healthy.
Think about the incredible amount of selfless, fearless, hardworking medical staff on the front lines of this COVID Crisis. They choose to go into a potentially deadly situation every day to help others find their way back to health.
They need you to choose to be healthy
You need to choose to be healthy
Your family needs you to choose to be positive
The world needs you to choose to be free
How do you do that? Try these 7-Steps
Step #1 – Start your morning with a movement practice. Take care of yourself before anything else. I like to get up, use the bathroom, brush my teeth, drink warm water, and do a meditative whole-body movement practice. I listen to my body and after my moves — I contemplate a poem or a quote.
Step #2 – Drink lots of water keeping hydrated allows your body to flush out toxins and keep your whole system fluid.
Step #3 – Get out in nature. Go outside, feel the sun on your body, breathe in the air (it is a lot cleaner right now), and move around outside — take a walk, go for a swim or enjoy a bike ride.
Step #4 – Get up every hour and move. Don’t become sedentary. It’s been proven to keep your body at optimal health you have to stand up and move at least every hour.
Step #5 – Keep in contact with your loves. The physical distancing of this time doesn’t mean social isolation. Call up a friend, do a live Zoom movement class, talk to your neighbor across your fence, write a letter, see a therapist via Zoom, Facetime or Skype — there are so many ways to stay connected!
Step #6 – Spend some time every day opening your heart. There is so much loss right now, people are dying, jobs are lost, finances are impacted — just to name a few of the things that are changing. Lie over a swimming pool noodle, noodle ball, or rolled-up towel with your arms overhead and roll up and down and side to side breaking up the tension. Lay with your noodle ball in your heart and breathe. Feel your grief. Be with it.
Step #7 – Deeply breathe into your belly. Feel it lift and expand out and up to your heart filling to the top of your lungs. Breathe off your lungs down into your belly feeling your belly drop back toward your spine. Notice the breath moves in and out of your body in waves. Ride the waves of your breath.
Be whole
